Lucky Star airs on Animax!
by Ade Magnaye on Jun.07, 2011, under Anime
I don’t usually write about anime, but I’ll make an exception this time. This is for Lucky Star, and it looks pretty interesting, if you ask me.
This June 8, 2011, Animax laughs up the our TV screens with the premiere of Lucky Star, a series about a motley crew of teen girls who find themselves in silly situations and hilarious misadventures more often than not. Anime fans will especially enjoy the series which is peppered with humorous references and parodies to the prevailing anime, manga and Japanese pop culture.
Based on the very real setting of Kasukabe city in Saitama Prefecture, Lucky Star follows the amusing antics and lively activities of four Japanese high school girls through their seemingly ordinary day-to-day lives in and out of school.Konata, an athletic and intelligent girl too dedicated to her favourite anime shows to excel in anything but being an anime ‘otaku’ (obsessive fan).
There is Miyuki, the bespectacled living example of ‘moe’ (cuteness) who has an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of all subjects. And Kagami is a ‘bitter-sweet’ character who is tough but shy to Konata’s teases and pranks; and her younger fraternal twin sister, Tsukasa, a kind but air-headed simpleton. The popularity of the Lucky Star has brought more than 470,000 fans from across Japan over the 2011 New Year holidays to pay ‘pilgrimage’ to the Washinomiya Shrine.
As Tokyo area’s oldest shrine and real-life backdrop of the anime series, the shrine is where Kagami and Tsukasa work as miko (shrine maidens). The influx of anime fans over the years has brought more than 1 billion yen to the town of Washimiya town where the shrine is situated.
Catch Lucky Star on Animax every Monday to Friday at 7:30pm, beginning on June 8!
My Metro Comic Con Experience: Stages of Melodrama
by RJ on Aug.11, 2009, under Anime, Comicpeoples, Events, Real Life stuff, Toys
I know you’re all expecting my Best and Worst Cosplay post so you can ogle at scantily clad teenagers, but I’m experiencing Internet problems(read: forgot to pay the bills again) so I made this post while leeching wifi from various establishments.

So here’s the MCC experience from the defective eyes of yours truly:
DAY 1
Shock and Horror
You reach the 5th floor of SM Megamall and the first thing you see is a man dressed as a gothic lolita. ’nuff said. Near the ticket booth are animu characters that you don’t recognize; no complaints about them, manga = comics after all. And then you realize half of them are actually men(I am not homophobic, except maybe in cons). Oh, and more gothic lolitas.
Rage and Despair
You enter the megatrade hall, expecting to see your favorite superheroes. Only to find.. You’ve guessed it, more gothic lolitas! You try your best to look for any western/local comic book characters but end up seeing a man in a school girl outfit.
The Iron Man anime looks pretty good
by Ade Magnaye on Jul.27, 2009, under Anime, Cartoons, Iron Man, Marvel, Wolverine
There are very few things in life that are capable of making me scream like a little girl.
One would be if Emma Watson comes over and asks to fellate me. Another is if somebody leaves “8======D” as a comment on my blog. But never before have I thought that Tony Stark will make me run around and scream like a little girl.
I’m pretty much a newbie Iron Man fan. I’ve always thought of him as a second-stringer but Bim’s incessant yakking about Iron Man made me check him out. And now I’m a total Iron Man fanboy, thanks to Bim, RDJ, and Matt Fraction (tee-hee).
Also, the 90′s cartoon was awesome. Too bad that teen Tony show, Iron Man: Armored Adventures, sucks as much as a two-cent whore on Thanksgiving (what). So I wasn’t excited when they announced the Iron Man anime. Well, I’ve never really paid attention until they released the trailer:
So. I’ll give you a few minutes to scrape your brain off the wall behind you, because I’m sure your head’s been pretty much blown to bits. By the way, Warren Fucking Ellis is writing this.
IN OTHER NOT-SO-INTERESTING NEWS: The Wolverine trailer, with bishonen Logan-chan, is uninteresting. Maybe if they cut the stupid mullet?
What do you guys think?
