DC Comics Gets A New, Terrible Logo
by Ade Magnaye on Jan.14, 2012, under DC, News
Unlike most angry internet fanboys, I was one of the few who actually genuinely liked the 2006 swoosh logo of DC Comics, and I’m really genuinely sad to see it go. Apparently, DC is applying for a trademark for their new logo, which shows the new bold direction DC Entertainment is going into.
And that new direction is bland as fuck. Is DC turning into a delivery service or something?
What do you guys think of the new logo?
Batman: Arkham City – Nightwing
by RJ on Oct.27, 2011, under batman, DC, Games
We interrupt your regularly scheduled SITE INACTIVITY (You’re the one who’s not active, RJ. -Ade) for a video clip I found on the interwebs! Batman: Arkham City was released on the PS3 and 360 last week, but sadly, PC gamers won’t be able to play it until November 15th :(. But PC gamers, being the master race, are willing to wait. And while we wait, check out the new Nightwing DLC trailer!
It’s no secret that I love Dick, Dick Grayson that is. My blog had an awesome Nightwing theme before Ade took over and changed things(read: everything). I am now TWICE as excited! But since my poor excuse of a laptop, twice zombified, will probably commit seppuku if I attempt to run the game, I will have to visit my good friend and Comicgasm contributor Nate Nakpil
Watchmen Prequels On The Way?
by Ade Magnaye on Oct.25, 2011, under DC, News

As if we needed another reason to hate DC more, there are rumors of plans of a Watchmen prequel. Names attached to the project are Dave Gibbons, John Higgins, Darwyn Cooke, JMS, JG Jones, Andy Kubert and more. Honestly, even though Watchmen is DC’s property and they can do the fuck whatever they want with it, this is just so wrong on so many levels. You don’t need a prequel to the single greatest graphic novel of all time. Everything was explained clearly in the beginning of the comic, and we don’t need to know what happens. Not even if it means Darwyn Cooke wrote the script. No. DC, just stop it already. I admit, the reboot, as unnecessary as it is, worked for a bit, but it doesn’t mean you can just go and and raping all your properties. Because seriously, if there’s anything nobody should touch, it’s Watchmen.

Russell Crowe as Jor-El in The Man of Steel!
by Ade Magnaye on Oct.07, 2011, under DC, Movies
So here’s a set picture of Russell Crowe as Jor-El in the latest Superman film, The Man of Steel. I dunno, he reminds me of a hobo. I wonder why.
Seriously, what the fuck is he fucking wearing? Was he drunk and did he stole one costume off the Thor set? Explain this monstrosity, Zack Snyder. EXPLAIN!

Snap Judgment: Bunker of the Teen Titans
by Carl on Sep.28, 2011, under DC, DCnU
So one of the new characters to join the Teen Titans is Bunker, a flamboyantly gay Mexican teenager with forcefield powers. All diehard Teen Titan fans I’ve talked to have come to the same conclusion when they heard the announcement about him:
He’s doomed.
It’s not a judgment on him – we have yet to see him in action – rather, it’s a judgment on both his writer and the company publishing him.
Scott Lobdell has not shown mature handling of sexuality lately (see: Starfire in Red Hood and the Outlaws and the ensuing controversy) which is a far cry from his great work in the 90s handling Generation X and Alpha Flight. Now, I know that writing straight female sexuality and gay male sexuality are very different things, and some people can fail miserably at one while acing the other (Hi, Judd Winick!) but the Starfire issue, combined with his comments in interviews where he’s bragging about how diverse his cast of Teen Titans is and how Bunker is going to be flamboyantly gay, because that’s how gay people are, does not give me much hope.
(Also, is it just me, or did his interview feel like he’s taking potshots at Marvel’s teen gay superheroes – Wiccan, Hulkling, Karolina Dean, Anole, etc. – who while being gay, aren’t stereotypes?) (continue reading…)
