The All-New Ultimate Spider-Man!
by Ade Magnaye on Aug.03, 2011, under Marvel, News, Ultimate Comics
So Peter Parker of the Ultimate universe was prominently featured recently in the Death of Spider-Man storyline, and – here’s a shocker – bit the bullet in the end. Nobody saw that coming, really. Anyway, Marvel just recently debuted the brand-new Spider-Man for the alternate Ultimate Universe, and I’m really loving this little development.
Here’s an except from Marvel’s announcement in USA Today:
Revealed in Marvel Comics’ Ultimate Fallout Issue 4, out Wednesday, the new Spider-Man in the Ultimate universe is a half-black, half-Hispanic teen named Miles Morales. He takes over the gig held by Peter Parker, who was killed in Ultimate Spider-Man Issue 160 in June.
In his first appearance, he simply breaks up a fight. But readers will learn the true origin of Morales and how he became the new Spider-Man when Ultimate Spider-Man relaunches in September with a new No. 1 issue [...] In addition to an alliterative name, Miles has a connection to his predecessor in how he received his powers. But he will have different abilities, too. Supporting characters such as Peter’s Aunt May and Gwen Stacy also will give Miles nuggets of wisdom to help his transition from young kid to New York City superhero.
I’m just afraid that with Brian Michael Bendis writing a half-black, half-hispanic Spider-Man, his signature heavy-handedness might get too unbearable. Let’s just see, alright?
Welcome to the (Ultimate) Marvel Universe, Miles Morales. Hope you become popular enough to not get killed and be replaced by your (non-minority) predecessor.
Blade and Twilight: Ultimate Avengers #16
by RJ on Dec.10, 2010, under Marvel, Ultimate Comics
Mark Millar said in an interview that he would write Ultimate Blade having a dream sequence where he’d kill Edward(or Edgar) Cullen from Twilight.
This is that dream sequence. From the first three pages of Ultimate Avengers #16. Enjoy.
Worst Comics of the Decade – Ultimatum
by Ade Magnaye on Dec.18, 2009, under Events, Marvel, Reviews, Ultimate Comics
Now that the decade is about to end, the Comicgasm staff will walk you through the worst comics of 2000-2009 and why they suck.

Ultimatum is what happens when you get Magneto to reverse the magnetic poles, flood New York, and practically kill half the superhuman population. He’s killing people because A ROBOT WHO FELL IN LOVE WITH THE SCARLET WITCH KILLED HER, SPARKING A BATTLE THAT ULTIMATELY KILLED QUICKSLIVER TOO. Everybody goes crazy and THEY KILL ONE ANOTHER IN THE BLOODIEST, MESSIEST, AND CRAPPIEST WAY POSSIBLE because this is a realistic world and it’s grim and gritty, right? Also, throw in some characters who EAT CORPSES JUST FOR THE HECK OF IT even though they’ve never shown any signs of cannibalism before. (continue reading…)
Delayed Review: Ultimate Comics Avengers #1, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1
by Ade Magnaye on Aug.16, 2009, under Marvel, Reviews, Ultimate Comics
Hey there sports fans. This is Ade, and I’ve finally found the time to sit down and review some comics for you guys. I noticed that DC’s getting massive coverage in this here blog (and it shouldn’t be a surprise, really, considering three out of three editors here are big DC fans).
So I’m going to make it a point to review as many Marvel Comics here as humanly possible. And this week, I’m going to review the two Ultimate Comics that came out this week.
You see, these comics are peculiar. The Ultimate line, after that godawful crossover called Ultimatum (the less said about it the better, really), has been rebranded as “Ultimate Comics.” Personally, I find the rebranding a bit weird, but I can’t really put my finger on it.
Anyway, we’re not here to discuss the merits of Marvel’s latest rebranding effort. We’re here to talk about comics!

Before anything else, why is Thor black and bald now? (continue reading…)
