Yes, the internet is buzzing with all sorts of praise for Geoff Johns’ epic masterpiece, Blackest Night. Imagine the amount of money DC has been raking in. So it’s really so surprise that Marvel is going to get into the act as well.

Also, if you haven’t figured it out yet, this is a spoof by the always-awesome theblast on Tumblr. But it’s so awesome we can only wish it was true. Also, I don’t know which comics to review this week since Fiel has dibs on GL and RJ’s MIA and I dunno what he wants to review. And I’m lazy to write my MCC post.
Blackest Night #2 & Green Lantern Corps #39
by nhojleif on Aug.14, 2009, under DC, Green Lantern, WTF
I don’t find either issue as awesome as the previous ones and some of the prelude issues, but I do have this to say:
DEATH, DEATH, DEATH EVERYWHERE!!!
Comics is generally known to kill some of its characters. But Blackest Night REALLY takes it to the nth level by:
1. Killing more and more characters
2. Turning them into zombies.
3. A supposed “War of Light” of rainbow colored beings is supposed to save the universe. (THINK Power Rangers.)
Sounds like a lame concept? It sure as hell is!
But the awesome Geoff Johns MAKES. IT. WORK.
To be honest, I don’t even know where to start. I’ll start with this advice: read BACK. (No I mean REALLY read back.) Blackest Night is such a vast arc that everyone is practically tied in! To be able to connect with the various characters in their experience of death requires that the reader knows what they have been through.
This is their way of making one-series readers like me read everything else.
Which leads me to my second advice: READ WIDE. Read Batman, Superman, Titans, Red Robin, Justice League, Justice Society: EVERYTHING.
If there is one thing we know about superheroes, it is that they have an unending list of dead relatives and friends. And oh yeah, THEY DIE. There are a lot of Black Rings to go around – so I repeat: READ EVERYTHING.
As for my review I guess that is pretty much it! – There is NO WAY I see that I can make a review without spoiling anything except by saying DEATH IS EVERYWHERE.
One last thing: if you think the ending of Blackest Night #1 was awesome? Check out Blackest Night #2‘s ending. (Super Scary) 4.5/5 stars.
One uber last thing: Green Lantern Corps #39 was well written, but 70% of the important details in it are things that have either been revealed or are assumed. 3.5/5 stars.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Graphic Novel
by Ade Magnaye on Aug.06, 2009, under Indie, News, WTF
Know what makes everything better? Zombies. Just look at Blackest Night. It’s the best event that DC has ever come up with (and we’re just past issue #1, folks!), and that’s saying a lot, since DC just finished Infinite Crisis, Sinestro Corps War, and Final Crisis (YES I LOVED FINAL CRISIS FUCK YOU HATERS).
You know what other things zombies can turn into something awesome? Jane Austen. I swear, if it wasn’t for Keira Knightley I would’ve dozed off to that Pride and Prejudice movie. What. It was a date.
Anyway, there was this little book called Pride and Prejudice and Zombies that came out a while back. I haven’t read it yet, but Lauren said that it was pretty fucking awesome. The thing is, it’s been ages since I’ve read something without pretty pictures in it (fuck you, comics!) so I haven’t picked up any book in ages.
Guess what: there’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Graphic Novel being developed right now. It’s going to be written by Tony Lee (X-Men, Spider-Man) and drawn by Cliff Richards (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). So I really can’t wait for this so I can get my Victorian-era zombie-killing action. Seriously, zombies and ninjas and women in weird puffy dresses. You can’t go wrong with that.
Come on, tell me you’re not excited. Really now.
Just when I thought I was finished ranting over Ultimatum…

Green Lantern Movie: Fiel’s Fan Cast
by nhojleif on Jul.29, 2009, under Comicpeoples, DC, Events, Green Lantern, Movies, News, WTF
Let me make a disclaimer: I will write 99.9% of the time about Green Lantern related topics. Which means that Ade and RJ will have to write some more to prevent our readers from choking on Geoff John‘s awesome.
But I’m here to make an important accouncement so damn delayed – that out of the prospective actors I wanted to play Hal Jordan (Chris Pine, Nathan Fillion & Ryan Gosling) it was Wolverine: Origins‘ DEADPOOL who was casted: Ryan Reynolds.
Incidentally, he’s also playing as Deadpool whose movie will come out in the same year as Green Lantern. This is a first – Marvel & DC will be coming up with competing superhero movies with the same leading man. This should be interesting!
I made this post in response to the original fan cast made by ComicBookMovie which I highly suggest checking out.
Without further ado here’s my own fan list!
HUGH LAURIE as Sinestro – while I don’t watch House regularly, his experience acting as a man who just does his own thing with badass written all over it is best for the renegade character of Sinestro. The look fits too!
TINA FEY as Carol Ferris – I can sense a huge amount of Rage and Love on me on this one! My take on Carol Ferris is an independent woman character yet is very girly in nature – we don’t want them TOO manly women (e.g. Michelle Rodriguez) or killer dollz (Angelina Jolie.) Besides, Tina Fey is awesome.
OK THAT’S ALL I CAN THINK OF THAT IS SERIOUS…
Now time for the REAL Fiel’s Fan Cast!
NEIL PATRICK HARRIS as a Guardian of the Universe – the Book of Oa will become the Bro Code in universal alien language. Beware my Power, Green Lantern’s (WAIT FOR IT…) Light!!!
MR. T as Kilowog - I’M KILOWOG. AND I’M A GREEN LANTERN. YOU POOZERS YOU AIN’T GOT THE.. oh screw it Mr. T is too damn awesome for me to describe how this is gonna go…
BROCK LESNAR as Guy Gardner – remember what he did last time when he won against Frank Mir? Nuff said.
EMMA WATSON as Soranik Natu - this is forAde, so that Emma has to wear that boob-exposed GL uniform. She’ll have to get a boob job though.
and finally…
CHUCK NORRIS as Superboy-Prime – Chuck Norris was so bored that he made himself younger, put on a Superman costume and penetrated the minds of writers that gave them the idea to put him in all the comic books. After killing a lot of beings in the comic world, he’s back here. Now he’s penetrated the minds of the direcors to put SBP in the Green Lantern Movie. No one is safe.
