Oh, yeah. As much as folks think we’re doing it for shock value, nothing we did in the story was for shock value. In my opinion, everything that’s done builds upon other things. The Creature Commandos don’t show up just because I think they’re cool, they show up because they are part of some larger purpose. Something as big as Jaime getting one in the head, I don’t do that because I think its cool. But also, it has that horrible symmetry, too. That’s what makes it a little more terrible.

Ade and I both agree that Winick can write great stories, when he takes time off trolling DC readers(it’s his hobby). Jaime Reyes, the latest Blue Beetle is THE best new DC character in the past decade(oh god, I’m old).  Just slightly winning against Damian Wayne and Cassandra Cain. And then This happens.

When Ryan Choi died, we joked about which other minority characters would bite the dust next. Cassandra Cain? Static? Jaime? Because we all know “death” in comic books isn’t really permanent, just look how Kyle Rayner died, only to get revived an issue later. This didn’t happen to Ryan Choi. And we fear that it won’t happen to Jaime Reyes either. It’s so very Winick of him to make it seem that it’s just a gimmick. To give us readers hope. Will they JLI make it in time? Oh hey, they made it! Fuck yea- OH WAIT. 10/10, Winnick. Will RAGE again.

So the Blue Beetle is dead. Just like how Superman died. Just like how Hal Jordan died. Just like how Bruce Wayne “died”. Just like how popular white leads died and came back. But Jaime is a NEW, TEENAGE, MINORITY character. Even in the universe that has Time Travel, Lazarus Pits and RETCON PUNCH, there’s a very narrow chance that Jaime will return. He’ll probably haunt people like the Dibneys(Where’s my Ghost Detective couple mini, DC? WHERE?) for a while though. But even if they make him appear in Booster Gold’s book with good ol’ Ted, it wouldn’t be the same. If DC is OK with killing off a new minority character, his supporting cast doesn’t stand a chance; it’s limbo-ville for them.

So here’s a big FUCK YOU, JUDD WINICK. I hate it even more that this is this issue is good, and the fact that Jaime’s death is treated a LOT better than Ryon Choi’s. Winick will forever be typed with “fucking” as a prefix. Fucking Winick. Just like Loeb. Fucking Loeb.

UPDATE: Now that the rage has calmed down a little and the paranoia kicking in, I think that Winick is gonna troll us by NOT killing Jaime. And just let us RAGE BLINDLY for a couple of weeks before revealing that the Scarab(it’s still attached to him, it would have fallen off if he was dead /speculation) saves him or something. If that does happen, then it’s golfclaps all around for Winick. But the prefix stays. Fucking Winick.
