Oh look! We finally have a comic review that actually gets published on time! Well, whaddaya know! This has been a pretty rockin’ week, so protect your faces, because Sentry’s going to punch your teeth in if you don’t behave!
And now, on to the reviews!
Invincible Iron Man #23
Can I just say that I’m… disappointed in Stark: Disassembled? After the brilliant World’s Most Wanted arc, which I consider the finest deconstruction of any comic book character, ever, Disassembled comes off as a bit too… light. Don’t get me wrong, this comic is still great by any standard. It has a really funny sequence with Pepper and Maria Hill that will definitely danger for Tony Stark once he wakes up – if he can actually remember what he did.
Matt Fraction still has a handle on every character he introduces in the comic, and that’s great. However, the Ghost subplot seems a bit forced because he’s been in Oklahoma for, what, two issues already and you don’t feel like any of the characters are in danger.
Not even when he’s gleefully shooting up point-blank one of Tony’s most trusted allies already. It’s like he was there for the sake of putting in a villain. It’s not as disappointing as Captain America Reborn of course, but if the last issue of this arc doesn’t end with a bang, it’s not going to be worth the wait.
Red Robin #9

I’m enjoying Red Robin way more than I’m supposed to. Sure, it’s not the greatest comic book. The storyline’s a bit blah. The Superboy-Red Robin bromace is back in full swing. It pales in comparison to the other titles in the Bat-universe (except maybe for Azrael; fuck Azrael), but once writer Christopher Yost finally jettisons all the angst that’s been plaguing Tim Drake for the first few issues of the series, the comic took an amazing leap forward in quality. The angst has been replaced with gags. Heck, it even makes fun of the earlier issues’s “dark and angsty” direction. And if there’s anything I love, it’s a comic that’s not afraid to poke fun at itself. Also who the heck reads a Christopher Yost comic for the story? You read a Yost comic for face-kicking, and he’s never disappointed me in that aspect so far.
Siege #2

I don’t have anything much to say about this comic. It’s just one big clusterfuck of a fight. Also, HOLY FUCK AT THAT ONE PART. I won’t spoil anything much. JUST FUCKING READ IT. It’s worth it.
