REVIEW: The Sixth Gun issues #1 and #2

The first issue of “The Sixth Gun” published by Oni Press and created by Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt was made available to the public during Free Comic Book day. The first issue packed so much punch and made you want to read more which is a testament to how well-written it is.

The story follows a mysterious gunslinger named Drake Sinclair (think a sharply dressed Jonah Hex crossed with John Constantine) and his quest to find a mystical and cursed pistol. He is not the only one searching for the pistol of course. There are sketchy Agents, and an army of crazed outlaws armed with similar weapons, who are led by an undead general (and original owner of the titular gun).

On the second issue, expositions are left at the cutting room floor as Drake faces off with the agents and the superpowered outlaws. It is an exciting and action-packed issue, and it’s definitely a fun read.

This is the most in-depth review I could give without spoiling the book, so I suggest you pick it up because it is definitely the most fun comic book I’ve read in ages. It’s well-written, it has amazing art, and it’s violent and brutal and gritty. Recommended for fans of Hellblazer, or if you love a well-executed mixture of the “supernatural” and the “western” genres.
