Honestly, I didn’t find most of this week’s releases great. I got an overpriced copy of Doom Patrol #4 (courtesy of RJ) so I can get that blasted Sinestro Corps Ring. Honestly I don’t know anything much about Doom Patrol except that the X-Men ripped them off. So reading it pretty much left me saying “Guh? Duh? Muh?” I’d probably enjoy reading it if I knew anything at all about the Doom Patrol’s history.

Anyway, the reviews!

Amazing Spider-Man #601

They’re not finished with this Ben Reilly storyline yet? Dammit.

Anyway, goddamn, I hate the Clone Saga. I loved the concept of Ben Reilly and all, but Kaine and the other clones give me just a headache thinking about it. So yeah, seeing Kaine in the pages kinda ruined it for me. This isn’t a bad story by any stretch – it contains some great character moments – but revisiting one of the ugliest moments in Spider-Man’s history isn’t exactly my cup of tea. Also, the way they were able to keep Pete’s secret identity in the end? Cheap cop-out for me.

God, I hope I don’t get to read more rehashes of 90’s concepts anytime soon or else I’ll-

Azrael #1

Oh, for fuck’s sake.

Okay, to be honest, I liked this comic. It’s pretty dark, angsty (but not 90’s level-angst yet), and it features a lead character who does not kill (well, not yet). Azrael is hunting down an assasin who’s been killing priests left and right. He’s been removing their lips and eyes and pouring salt on the victims (ok, I told you the book is dark). Now, Azrael is having a hard time stopping this killer because he’s apparently in the same situation as he is. He’s using wrong ways to do the right thing.

Also, the priest the assasin’s hunting down is a pedophile, and the other victims were people who kept their mouth shut.

As far as I know, I haven’t seen this issue being tackled in a mainstream comic before, and I’d like to see where it goes.

Also, who else went DAAAAAAAAAAAAMN at the last page?

Captain America Reborn #4

Disclaimer: I love this issue.

From the moment Red Skull went psycho on the Doombots up to the amazing last page, this issue has been pretty awesome. We see Reed Richards and Hank Pym working together, racing against time to bring Steve back before Skull and Doom. Not to spoil anything, but they fail.

We also get fantastic scenes of Cap fighting this time with Rick Jones as Bucky, and a rather harrowing reliving of Bucky’s “death.”

Okay, so now I’ve given you this week’s reviews, gimme a few weeks because I need to beg for money or rob a bank or suck dicks because the Sinestro Corps Ring has bled my wallet dry. But it’s fucking worth it.
