Okay, so this is the first time I’ll ever do a review for Comicgasm. I spend two weeks here doing nothing but stall, copy Chris Sims, take comic book panels out of context, and make the occasional gay joke or two. It’s time I write something real here.

Okay this is my pull list for this week:

Justice League: Cry For Justice #2

Man, this is NOT a good book.

James Robinson has been one of my favorite writers. And who doesn’t love the way he turned Krypto into the awesome super pet sidekick he’s supposed to be? I was so excited for this book ever since it was announced.

The art is as always, gorgeous, and I’m waiting for the concept of a proactive superhero team to work, without it becoming too violent and X-treme (X-Force, no matter how awesome you’ve been, you remind me too much of the Liefeld!90’s).

But dear lord, Cry For Justice has been one painful ride. It’s so fucking preachy, dialogue is leaden, it’s so goddamn grim, the interesting stuff happens off-panel (really, I wanted to see Hal and Ollie kick that B-Villain group’s ass so badly), also it’s boring.

Also, this book might be responsible for starting a new wave of slash fanfiction starring Ray Palmer and Jay Garrick:

GAYGAYGAY
Okay, I promised no more out of context panels laden with gay jokes, but come on dude.

Thankfully, there were two things I liked here. One, Hal has had a 3-way with Huntress and Lady Blackhawk, and it’s canon (well, until the next Crisis). Two, the spear bouncing off Supergirl’s tits. Yeah.

Captain America Reborn #2

PEW PEW PEW
Time and again, I’ve said that I trust in Ed Brubaker. He hasn’t failed me yet, but I have yet to be convinced why Steve Rogers’s return has to be contained in a mini instead of continuing within the main series.

Sure, Brubaker’s on his usual stellar self here, but ever since the story was taken out of the usual subdued confines of the main series, my expectations were put on an all-time high. You see, what I loved about the way Marvel handled Cap’s death was that they did it in a subdued manner. Now they’re turning Steve’s resurrection into an event, but the pacing is still the same as the regular series. Come on Ed, show us something that’ll make us go “OH SHIT” like you do on a monthly basis.

On the upside: Norman Osborn’s still an evil bastard and Brubaker knows how to handle the guy. Hitch’s art is amazing; it doesn’t feel rushed, unlike last issue. The World War II scenes are awesome, like the one where Steve took on that Nazi superhuman.

Oh yeah, what do we do with Bucky when Steve comes back? You’ve made him a bit too awesome a character to just throw away. I wanna see more of Bucky.

Amazing Spider-Man #601

NEWS: Pete just got laid.

LUCKY BASTARD

For those bitching about it, give the poor guy a break dammit. He was already lusting after his cousins. He’s turning out to be creepier than I am. He needed the sex.

Really, that’s all I can say about the main story in this issue, because nothing really happened. RJ says it’s a nice throwback to the 60’s stories. I dunno. I found the issue really funny though. By the way, Marvel just lost an awesome domain. Somebody beat ya to it, suckers!

And SPOILER ALERT MJ knows about Pete’s identity OMG! Does she also know that she sold her marriage to the devil and in essence aborted her unborn baby as well?

Oh yeah, the backup story is also good. Great moment between Pete and Jessica Jones. Also Pete sunbbed Bucky!Cap’s high five.

No wonder Jameson hates your ass.

That bastard.
