Hello there people! I’m here to deliver more comic book reviews despite a bad bout of writer’s block and an all-encompassing feeling of an upcoming existential angst. Okay. So I just finished a rant here on Comicgasm and it’s not even my blog! Meh. Introductory paragraph finished awkwardly, let’s get to the reviews.
Flash: Rebirth #4

Holy shit, that was some ride. After lounging in boring-land for the first three issues, finally Flash: Rebirth gets into full gear.
Barry Allen has been stuck in a sort-of negative speed force created by the original Reverse Flash, Thawne. After a LOT of exposition, we find out that Barry is the engine of the speed force, and that all the shit that happened to Barry since Final Crisis is all Thawne’s fault.
The only gripe I had with this issue is that they could’ve done this earlier. Instead of going through 3 issues where practically nothing happened, Johns could’ve saved us from a lot of trouble by cutting out a lot of crap and getting to the retcon-explanations sooner.
Also, on Barry whining about his return: why can’t Hal just tell him “Dude, I’ve been dead too. Suck it up.”
Batman: The Widening Gyre #1
Kevin Smith is an awesome writer. However, his Batman is just too witty for his own good. I know Morrison believes that Batman has a sense of humor (and yes, he should fucking have one) but I’ve never seen Batman this witty since Bob Kane was writing him. Since Bruce here was too busy making witty one-liners and cursing, it’s almost like I was reading an Ultimate Spider-Man comic. It’s not pretty bad, but the wit takes me off the story.

But it’s got a scene where Poison Ivy masturbated in front of Batman, so it’s all good.
Deadpool #14

It wasn’t as funny as last issue, but man, has this series has some awesome moments and concepts going for it. I wish they took the pirate thing a little longer though. I want to see more adventures of Pirate Deadpool with Parrto Bob Agent of Hydra with that hot blind chick as navigator.
I have to admit though, I consider the part where Bob wasted all of their ammunition and it didn’t even land a scratch on Wackbeard’s boat the pinnacle of sequential art this decade.
And this concludes this week’s half-heartedly written comic book reviews. Catch you later, folks.
