Geoff Johns and Jim Lee relaunch Justice League
by Ade Magnaye on Jun.01, 2011, under DC, Events
Hey Comicgasm readers, I’ve got a bit of a confession to make: I kinda lost interest in comics, except for a few titles like Amazing Spider-Man, Justice League: Generation Lost, and the Bat-verse after Blackest Night. Now, BN was by no means a bad crossover, but it failed to live up to the hype it built for itself. And DC seems to have fallen into a weird cycle of rebooting the universe on a frequent basis since Infinite Crisis. Sure, they’re not reboots per se, but we get to see huge retcons, up to the point where huge parts of a character’s history were changed on regularly (see: Superman, Flash, Batman). You’d think after Final Crisis (which was awesome and I will fight you if you say otherwise) they’re going to stop it already.
Guess what? They’ve done it again.
According to USA Today, the entire DC line will be relaunched after Flashpoint, and everything – I mean EVERYTHING – will be renumbered to #1. I actually don’t have a problem with that, because resetting comics to #1 has become standard industry practice at this point. I’m kind of weirded out at the fact that it looks like DC is going to hit the reset button and completely clean the slate. (continue reading…)
“Darna Lives” is an amazing reimagining of the local superheroine
by Ade Magnaye on Mar.02, 2011, under Indie, Local
Written by Gerry Alanguilan with Arnold Arre on art duties, Darna Lives is a dark reimagining of Mars Ravelo’s Darna, inspired by Alan Moore’s Marvelman. The very short nine-page story deals with a middle-aged Narda living a very unremarkable life, her previous adventures as Darna seemingly forgotten.
That’s all there is to Darna Lives, really, since it’s only nine pages long. Alanguilan and Arre felt that it would be improper to complete the story in its entirety without the permission of Ravelo family. Which is a shame – this comic gives off a completely Dark Knight Returns vibe, and as far as I know no local superhero has been given this treatment.

This needs more support so we can see the Ravelos giving Alanguilan and Arre their blessing to complete the story and for Darna Lives to be picked up by a publisher. You guys have to show your support for this so that it gets off the ground, so everyone, go ahead and spread the word!
The comic can be read for free in its entirety at http://darnalives.blogspot.com and I suggest you go ahead and do so. It would be a crime to not read this.
Spider-Man: One Moment In Time – Review
by Ade Magnaye on Sep.17, 2010, under Marvel, Reviews
To be honest, I never really had high hopes for Spider-Man: One Moment In Time to begin with. Brand New Day was rocking like crazy, giving us some of the best Spider-Man stories in twenty years like Shed and The Grim Hunt. Most of us were willing to forget the whole One More Day ordeal. Spider-Man made a fucking deal with the devil to save his aunt’s life, and the cost was his marriage and give or take five years of his life, and surprisingly, there are a few nerds that are willing to live with that. It’s not a pretty situation, but if it means great stories, than it can’t be all that bad, right?

Just when we were all starting to enjoy Amazing Spider-Man once again, Joe Quesada pulls O.M.I.T. out of his ass to answer questions nobody was asking. The whole premise of O.M.I.T. was simple – since Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson were no longer married, what happened? How did Aunt May survive being shot in the freaking stomach? And how the hell did the world forget Spider-Man’s identity?
Captain America Movie Costume Photos Surface
by Ade Magnaye on Sep.09, 2010, under Marvel, Movies
On The Daily Mail, set photos of a stuntman wearing the Captain America costume for the Captain America: The First Avenger film have been released. I know you’re probably disappointed that it’s not Chris Evans wearing the flag, but still, we now have an idea how the costume looks like in real life, and it’s fairly consistent with the concept art we’ve seen a while back.
Sometimes all it takes is the perfect angle and timing to make it look like Captain America is giving someone head.

Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor movie posters!
by Ade Magnaye on Jul.21, 2010, under Marvel, Movies, News
New Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor movie teaser posters have been released for the San Diego Comic-Con, and it shows… well, concept art. As in pantings and no actors. Nonetheless, I think it rather badass. I hope they make the final posters like this, and they don’t follow the overdone “floating heads” posters seen in the last two Iron Man movies.
What do you think?
