Review: Young Justice – Independence Day
by Ade Magnaye on Nov.28, 2010, under Cartoons, DC, Reviews
To be honest, I wasn’t really enthused with this new Young Justice cartoon. I wasn’t really a Teen Titans fan, and this cartoon, even though it carried the name of the awesome series by Peter David, wasn’t the same team from that comic. First, Robin was Dick Grayson, and not Tim Drake. Okay, I understood that Dick was the most iconic Robin. Most non-nerds (who will probably make up a huge part of the audience) aren’t even aware that there have been a lot of Robins already. I think I can live with that. Kid Flash is Wally West, not Bart Allen, which is fine with me. However, the disturbing lack of Wonder Girl, and having Arrowette stand-in for the obligatory strong female character is not something I liked.
What got me excited about Young Justice, however, was the concept – it was a completely different approach from all versions of the young superhero sidekick team we’ve all seen before. Here, let me quote Wikipedia for you because I’ve tried to write the next sentence a billion times but I can’t just fucking get it right:
The show is set in Earth-16, a DC Multiverse world, and corresponds to the present time of our world — a time period Vietti has called “a new age of heroes.” The recently founded (three to four years in activity) Justice League is a powerful organization of superheroes who find themselves becoming “high-powered, high-wattage celebrities” tracked closely by the public. As it grows increasingly difficult for the Justice League to operate outside the spotlight, the supervillains take advantage of their opponents’ prominence while becoming better at organizing and working under the radar. Meanwhile, the teenaged sidekicks of several Justice League members feel they are ready to graduate on to the next level and become more independent. Consequently, Batman organizes the teens to fill the need for a covert operations team while keeping their protégés under their authority.
Okay. There. The concept of a covert ops team made entirely out of sidekicks appealed to me. In fact, this sounds pretty awesome. And the fact that it’s set in Earth-16 made the show more interesting for me to watch, because that means if it happens on the show, it affects the DC comic multiverse. (continue reading…)
Captain America Movie Costume Photos Surface
by Ade Magnaye on Sep.09, 2010, under Marvel, Movies
On The Daily Mail, set photos of a stuntman wearing the Captain America costume for the Captain America: The First Avenger film have been released. I know you’re probably disappointed that it’s not Chris Evans wearing the flag, but still, we now have an idea how the costume looks like in real life, and it’s fairly consistent with the concept art we’ve seen a while back.
Sometimes all it takes is the perfect angle and timing to make it look like Captain America is giving someone head.

Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor movie posters!
by Ade Magnaye on Jul.21, 2010, under Marvel, Movies, News
New Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor movie teaser posters have been released for the San Diego Comic-Con, and it shows… well, concept art. As in pantings and no actors. Nonetheless, I think it rather badass. I hope they make the final posters like this, and they don’t follow the overdone “floating heads” posters seen in the last two Iron Man movies.

Chris Hemsworth as Thor: New Images!
by Ade Magnaye on Jun.04, 2010, under Marvel, Movies

So yesterday, we had concept art of Chris Evans as Captain America. I’m not too happy with the designs, but whatever keeps him from looking silly when put next to Iron Man in the eventual Avengers movie, right?
So now, images of concept art of Chris Hemsworth as Thor in his upcoming movie has also leaked. We can’t be too sure if this is official, but the similarity of the art style to the Captain America mockups are pretty striking. Check out the new Chris Hemsworth as Thor pictures after the jump! More Green Lantern Movie concept art leaked! Sinestro! Guardians of the Universe!
by Ade Magnaye on Jan.29, 2010, under DC, Green Lantern, Movies
So, more art, allegedly from the Green Lantern movie, surfaced. These are apparently concept art and like the previous batch of images, they’re depicting how the characters will look like in the movie. Now we have Sinestro and a Guardian of the Universe. The Guardian picture is consistent with the previous ones, and Sinestro’s artwork looks a bit different.
From Latino Review:
Of course, there’s a catch. I can’t find any site with an official source confirming that this is indeed concept art from the film, but a person on TheGreenLanternCorps.com’s forum stated that they knew an unnamed source who had stated these images were concept art from the movie.
Now with that caveat in mind, let’s check the images! (continue reading…)
