The Dark Knight Rises Teaser Trailer!

by on Jul.19, 2011, under batman, DC, Movies, News

Here it is. The first official trailer for the epic conclusion to the Chris Nolan Batman film trilogy – The Dark Knight Rises. It doesn’t give us much information about the plot – we just see a few flashbacks to the scenes of the first two films, a hospitalized Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) pleading with an off-screen Bruce Wayne/Batman (Christian Bale) to step out of retirement, and a few fleeting glimpses of the movie’s big bad, Bane (Tom Hardy).

Considering TDKR is going to open July 2012, I’m really surprised at how early this movie’s marketing push is. Also, it only started filming a few weeks back, and we have some climatic fight scene footage already! What do you think of the new The Dark Knight Rises teaser trailer?

The Dark Knight Rises Teaser Poster OH MY GOD

by on Jul.12, 2011, under DC, Movies, News

If there’s one comic book movie geeks everywhere are looking forward to seeing, it definitely is The Dark Knight Rises. The final part of the Chris Nolan Batman film trilogy, Batman (Christian Bale) will face off against Bane (Tom Hardy) and possibly Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) as Catwoman. There are also rumors of a young Ra’s Al-Ghul, Talia Al-Ghul, and a Lazarus Pit in the film.

And now, Twitter user @simps just tweeted the teaser poster of this much-anticipated film.

Holy. Fucking. Shit. That is all I can say.

Green Lantern Emerald Knights

by on Jun.09, 2011, under DC, Green Lantern, Movies, Reviews

Okay. Pretty much EVERYONE is angry at DC right now, and for good reason. But let’s take a blue ring and sooth that RAGE for now and see something GOOD for a change.

I’m talking about Green Lantern Emerald Knights, DC’s latest direct-to-video feature film. And it is oh so very good. So good that I went back to liking Geoff Johns for a while. Man, that is crazy! Warning: this review is spoilerrific!

You know why it’s so damn good? Because it’s not centralized on just one character, *COUGH* HAL JORDAN *COUGH* but about the diverse members of the Green Lantern Corps. Hal got to be the story teller to an animu-looking rookie Arisia though. *insert statutory rape joke here*

Green Lantern WonderCon Footage is all sorts of amazing

by on Apr.03, 2011, under DC, Green Lantern, Movies

The Green Lantern film starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan was on my most-anticipated films a couple of years back. However, by the time they showed  us a preview of that horrible, horrible costume, and with the very lackluster trailer, my anticipation for this film waned down to a barely-audible “meh.” Green Lantern’s a favorite character of mine and it feels like the filmmakers were doing their best to strip from the movie everything that made the comic so great.

And I felt that way, until I saw this 4-minute video showing footage from WonderCon. This short clip totally restored my faith in my the movie. I’ll let the footage speak for itself.

Opening in 3D and 2D theaters on June 17, the Martin Campbell-directed action adventure stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Angela Bassett, Tim Robbins, Temuera Morrison, Jay O. Sanders, Taika Waititi, Jon Tenney and Geoffrey Rush.

The costume still sucks, though.

What do you think of this new footage?

Grant Morrison: Talking With Gods

by on Jan.31, 2011, under DC, Events, Superman

Hello folks! Here we have guest writer Janina Joves, a nerd from Australia that plays World of Warcraft with Greg Rucka. She recently attended the Australian premiere of Grant Morrison: Talking With Gods that showed at Melbourne on the 28th.  I somehow managed to convince her to share her experience watching the Sexy Bald Scotsman. Here we go.

Scene 1

A shadowed silhouette of a man, standing against a dark wall. His ghosts weigh on the back of his suit jacket, but he does not let it show. A glint of light frames the sunglasses resting on his Scottish nose.

It seems as if he is waiting for something, yet as the dull roar of noise slows down to something more comprehensible, a voice starts filtering through, heralding his fame, his achievements, his status.

The Rock Star of Comics.

MR. GRANT MORRISON.

Scene 2

The scene pans to a ComiCon panel, and GRANT is walking, not confidently, but not meekly either. He walks as he is muddling through the surprise of it all, and is slowly accepting that this is reality for him. The reality where he made magic happen.

In front of him is his legion of fans, all cheering at his arrival on stage.

The scene is still set in greyscale, all black, white, and grey.

Scene 3

We are behind GRANT, looking into the crowd. In attempts to thank everyone for everything, GRANT lets out a gem of a statement in his distinct Scottish brogue:  “I’ll try to show my thanks in form of interpretive dance.”

Scene 4

We see him dancing awkwardly, but his demeanour shows no self-consciousness.

A TOTAL FREE SPIRIT.

IN A SUIT.

NonCanonical, a Melbourne based weekly comics podcast, presents Grant Morrison: Talking With Gods – a documentary of how the being named Grant Morrison, the described Rock Star of Comics, came to be. It delves through his backstory, sifting through the truths and obscured myth, attempting to separate fact from fiction. Friends of Grants shedding light with their own personal experiences, supplementing Grant’s own monologue.

The film runs as if going through a biography of a rock star – overladen and overlain with imagery – images within images – which seems to enhance the aura of mystery that just envelopes Grant Morrison’s head like a cloud covered mountain top.  (continue reading…)
