Finally, Some Good News From DC: The JSA Returns!

by on Aug.28, 2011, under DC, News

I haven’t been reading comics as of late, except for Fear Itself (because it’s awesome) and Flashpoint (because it’s horrible). However, co-editor RJ has been keeping me up to speed on what is going on comics, manly DC. My Yahoo! Messenger window is filled with nothing but rants on how horrible DC’s last pre-reboot issues are. I’m not surprised, considering that the reboot was just thrown in as an afterthought and wasn’t really part of DC’s long-term strategy, and imagine how many storylines had to be cut short because of this bullshit.

If you’ve been following my tirades on this site for the last few months, you know that I have absolutely nothing but dread for this reboot. I know reboots are DC’s thing, and that this has been done to death since 1985, but it looks like DC has not been able to fix their shit since Infinite Crisis, and their only way out is, well, another reboot. Only this time, they have horrible 90′s inspired costumes. Don’t get me wrong, though – I’m excited for a few comics coming out of this reboot, like Grant Morrison’s Superman reboot in Action Comics, Scott Snyder taking over Batman, and the Animal Man comic with amazing art that intrigues me.

Well, there’s one more thing that has just been added to my list of comics that I want to read in the DCnU: Justice Society of America. Let’s face it: when Geoff Johns left the JSA, he left it in shambles. That Kingdom Come tie-in with Earth-22 wasn’t great and it took a year to finish, plus with a Power Girl story set in Earth-2 that nobody even bothered to finish. Then the team was divided between the old guard and the younger ones who were more proactive. At that point I just gave up reading JSA altogether. And RJ tells me that Alan Scott, the best and greatest Green Lantern of Earth just died, so fuck that. (continue reading…)

The New Justice League of America: Wait, WTF?

by on Sep.21, 2009, under DC, WTF

Starting issue 38, a new Justice League of America will be formed. The team will be formed of Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Green Arrow, the Atom, Batman, Mon-El, Donna Troy, Cyborg, Doctor Light, Starfire, Congorilla, and the Guardian.

Okay, what? This is probably the least iconic JLA I’ve ever seen. I totally loved the JLA lineup during the Morrison era, and understandably they had to give that lineup a rest. I also liked the Meltzer lineup as well, although I’m disappointed they disbanded that group way before they could be given great stories. (continue reading…)

Reviews: Captain America Reborn #2, Amazing Spider-Man #601, Justice League: Cry For Justice #2

by on Aug.07, 2009, under DC, Marvel, Reviews

Okay, so this is the first time I’ll ever do a review for Comicgasm. I spend two weeks here doing nothing but stall, copy Chris Sims, take comic book panels out of context, and make the occasional gay joke or two. It’s time I write something real here.

Okay this is my pull list for this week:

Justice League: Cry For Justice #2

Man, this is NOT a good book.

James Robinson has been one of my favorite writers. And who doesn’t love the way he turned Krypto into the awesome super pet sidekick he’s supposed to be? I was so excited for this book ever since it was announced.

The art is as always, gorgeous, and I’m waiting for the concept of a proactive superhero team to work, without it becoming too violent and X-treme (X-Force, no matter how awesome you’ve been, you remind me too much of the Liefeld!90′s). (continue reading…)
