REVIEW: Blackest Night #8

by on Apr.01, 2010, under DC, Green Lantern, Reviews

Okay. Blackest Night. What a ride.

So I just finished reading Blackest Night 8, and what can I say? It’s fucking awesome. It has all these moments that both made me geekgasm and cringe. Dialogue is still typical Geoff Johns: cliche-riddled but somehow it works. But in the end it’s so fucking awesome I totally forgot about the book’s flaws and I just sat and took it all in.

Okay then. Now on to the SPOILER-FILLED PART OF THE REVIEW (don’t read any further if you haven’t read BN #8): (continue reading…)

REVIEWS: Adventure Comics #5, Invincible Iron Man #21

by on Dec.13, 2009, under DC, Iron Man, Marvel, Reviews

Oh look, it’s me again, battling a fever so I can write up the blogosphere’s best (even though it’s a few days deleyed) comic book reviews!

Adventure Comics #5

I didn’t like Adventure Comics #4, for some reason. Maybe I was accustomed to Blackest Night tie-ins taking themselves too seriously that I totally got lost in the wacky fourth wall-breaking issue. (continue reading…)

The New Justice League of America: Wait, WTF?

by on Sep.21, 2009, under DC, WTF

Starting issue 38, a new Justice League of America will be formed. The team will be formed of Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Green Arrow, the Atom, Batman, Mon-El, Donna Troy, Cyborg, Doctor Light, Starfire, Congorilla, and the Guardian.

Okay, what? This is probably the least iconic JLA I’ve ever seen. I totally loved the JLA lineup during the Morrison era, and understandably they had to give that lineup a rest. I also liked the Meltzer lineup as well, although I’m disappointed they disbanded that group way before they could be given great stories. (continue reading…)

REVIEWS: Flash: Rebirth #4, Batman: The Widening Gyre #1, Deadpool #14

by on Aug.31, 2009, under DC, Marvel, Reviews

Hello there people! I’m here to deliver more comic book reviews despite a bad bout of writer’s block and an all-encompassing feeling of an upcoming existential angst. Okay. So I just finished a rant here on Comicgasm and it’s not even my blog! Meh. Introductory paragraph finished awkwardly, let’s get to the reviews.

Flash: Rebirth #4

Holy shit, that was some ride. After lounging in boring-land for the first three issues, finally Flash: Rebirth gets into full gear. (continue reading…)

Team Reviews: JSA, JLA and Teen Titans

by on Aug.05, 2009, under DC

Hey kiddies, this uber uber late entry is all about me whining about the DC teams.

Firstly, Teen Titans!

Nothing really new. Same teen angst, same teen drama. Wonder Girl is still emo, somehow keeping the team from killing themselves with their wacky shenanigans. I’m really amused with Aquagirl openly hitting on Blue Beetle, I sense a catfight with Traci in the near future(YES PLZ). She also replaced Rose as the casually naked chick.
