Roundtable Review: Batman and Robin #16
by RJ & Ade on Nov.04, 2010, under batman, DC, Reviews
Grant Morrison’s run on Batman and Robin has finished, and with it, he ends the Batman: Reborn and Batman R.I.P. era. He’ll be back next month in the pages of Batman Incorporated, but before he starts the new arc in his epic Batman tale, let’s take time to review the last issue of Batman and Robin before Paul “Awesomely British” Cornell takes over.
Comicgasm editors Ade & RJ sit down and talk about what they liked and didn’t like in this issue and Morrison’s run in general, and what they expect in the so-called “Season Two” of Morrison’s Batman epic.
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD
Ade: Before anything else, I must say I loved it. I was excited for this issue since the cliffhanger ending of Batman and Robin #15, and boy, was the wait worth it.
RJ: A BANANA PEEL? Really, Morrison? REALLY? Wait, does that count as a spoiler?
Ade: I have no idea man, but right now, Chekov’s gun is now a banana peel. Oh, before I forget, when we saw that last page from #15:
Ade: Were you hoping that it was either Joker or Alfred in the Batsuit? Because I was. It totally won’t make any sense at all, but that’s what Morrison’s good at – taking those things and making it work. (continue reading…)
KomiKon Week: Go-Beerkada: The Rise of the Jhologs – Review Part 1
by Ade Magnaye on Oct.20, 2009, under Indie, Local, pinoy comics, Reviews
This is KomiKon Week at Comicgasm, and although I wasn’t there (something I so utterly regret), I had a good friend pick up a copy of Lyndon Gregorio’s Go-Beerkada: The Rise of the Jhologs.

Before I go on rambling about the review, the way my friend was able to acquire this little piece of comic book history is a bit of a story by itself. You see, ever since it was advertised on Beerkada’s website, I wanted to get my hands on Go-Beerkada.
So when KomiKon came and I didn’t have time to go there, I immediately bugged a friend to buy me a copy of Go-Beerkada. Unfortunately, he has never heard of Beerkada before. How the heck that happened, I don’t know. Anyway, he was going around Megatrade Hall looking for the elusive Beerkada graphic novel. (continue reading…)
REVIEWS: Amazing Spider-Man #606, Archie #601, Superman: Secret Origin #1
by Ade Magnaye on Sep.25, 2009, under DC, Marvel, Reviews
Hey guys, the reviews are back. I’m taking a break from my “pleasuring Comicgasm’s secret harem of hot and willing women” duties to take some time to actually read some comics and write a review.
By the way, if you haven’t heard yet, Comicgasm is a finalist in the 2009 Philippine Blog Awards! We’d like to thank our readers (both of you) and our mothers for constantly visiting this blog. And because we’re going to party like it’s 1993 after this review, I’m going to put on my YAY! face.

This is my YAY! face
Amazing Spider-Man #606
As usual, Peter Parker’s problems pile up and he’s all mister whiney mcdouche again. But it doesn’t mean we can’t sit back and enjoy and say “whew, am I ever so glad that shit isn’t happening to me.” (continue reading…)
Black Market EX
by Ade Magnaye on Aug.28, 2009, under Events, News, Real Life stuff
So I have my comic book stash for the week ready, but I just can’t do my reviews just yet. Too lazy. So instead of making some half-assed review that’ll probably incite some nerd rage, let me just plug this event for you instead:

Yeah, Black Market EX. Personally, I’m not a toy collector (not that I don’t want to be one, but it’s an expensive hobby and I might have to let go of a girl or two from my harem because of the expenses) but I could see by now that it’s going to be pretty freaking sweet. (continue reading…)
Blackest Night #2 & Green Lantern Corps #39
by nhojleif on Aug.14, 2009, under DC, Green Lantern, WTF
I don’t find either issue as awesome as the previous ones and some of the prelude issues, but I do have this to say:
DEATH, DEATH, DEATH EVERYWHERE!!!
Comics is generally known to kill some of its characters. But Blackest Night REALLY takes it to the nth level by:
1. Killing more and more characters
2. Turning them into zombies.
3. A supposed “War of Light” of rainbow colored beings is supposed to save the universe. (THINK Power Rangers.)
Sounds like a lame concept? It sure as hell is!
But the awesome Geoff Johns MAKES. IT. WORK.
To be honest, I don’t even know where to start. I’ll start with this advice: read BACK. (No I mean REALLY read back.) Blackest Night is such a vast arc that everyone is practically tied in! To be able to connect with the various characters in their experience of death requires that the reader knows what they have been through.
This is their way of making one-series readers like me read everything else.
Which leads me to my second advice: READ WIDE. Read Batman, Superman, Titans, Red Robin, Justice League, Justice Society: EVERYTHING.
If there is one thing we know about superheroes, it is that they have an unending list of dead relatives and friends. And oh yeah, THEY DIE. There are a lot of Black Rings to go around – so I repeat: READ EVERYTHING.
As for my review I guess that is pretty much it! – There is NO WAY I see that I can make a review without spoiling anything except by saying DEATH IS EVERYWHERE.
One last thing: if you think the ending of Blackest Night #1 was awesome? Check out Blackest Night #2‘s ending. (Super Scary) 4.5/5 stars.
One uber last thing: Green Lantern Corps #39 was well written, but 70% of the important details in it are things that have either been revealed or are assumed. 3.5/5 stars.
