Captain America Corps… REALLY?
by Ade Magnaye on May.21, 2011, under Marvel

I’ve been forced to get out of my regular routine to not update Comicgasm because of this piece of news:
When bedlam breaks loose in a dystopic America, the Watcher calls together the nation’s greatest team to save our nation and the world! Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, U.S.Agent, American Dream, and Commander A must band together to cut the American public loose from the malicious control of Americommand. But can the Sentinel of Libertys, led by Steve and Bucky, work with one another before it’s too late? Find out this June when Captain America Corps #1 (of 5) hits comic shops everywhere.
REALLY, MARVEL? Captain America Corps? What sort of dumb idea is that?
Chris Evans as Captain America – First Official Image, Batman 3 is The Dark Knight Rises!

For those curious as to what Chris Evans – formerly Fantastic Four’s Johnny Storm – looks like as Captain America, Entertainment Weekly’s giving us a first look. You have to give Marvel Studios’ costume and makeup people credit here – he doesn’t look like a douchebag fratboy.

Aside from the duckface, hes pretty much what I thought Steve Rogers would look like. The modifications they made to the classic costume looks great too – it’s something that would work in the real world, while staying true to how it looks like in the comics. I just wonder why they decided to make the shield all rugged with those bullet marks, though. Anyway, there’s a great interview with Chris Evans on landing the Captain America on EW’s website! Chris Evans is Captain America!
by Ade Magnaye on Mar.24, 2010, under Marvel, Movies

Yes, the guy who played Johnny Storm in those HORRIBLE Fantastic Four movies is now going to play Captain America. And as I’m writing this, the internet actually broke in two as people are ranting non-stop on their LiveJournals about how bad this casting choice is, and they’re probably arranging a protest at Marvel Studios right now, so they can storm the shit out of the building and kill whoever did that decision. REVIEWS: Adventure Comics #5, Invincible Iron Man #21
by Ade Magnaye on Dec.13, 2009, under DC, Iron Man, Marvel, Reviews
Oh look, it’s me again, battling a fever so I can write up the blogosphere’s best (even though it’s a few days deleyed) comic book reviews!
Adventure Comics #5

I didn’t like Adventure Comics #4, for some reason. Maybe I was accustomed to Blackest Night tie-ins taking themselves too seriously that I totally got lost in the wacky fourth wall-breaking issue. (continue reading…)
Avengers Re-Assemble?
by Ade Magnaye on Oct.13, 2009, under Iron Man, Marvel

I know you people have been holding your breath for the longest time for this, but those looking for a grand reunion of the Avengers might see what they’re looking for in Marvel’s new four-issue event, called The Siege.
Written by Brian Michael Bendis and art by Olivier Coipel, The Siege spells the end of Norman Osborn’s Dark Reign. According to Bendis, the reunion of the big three (Iron Man, Captain America and Thor) is very instrumental to the end of Dark Reign. It’s a “seismic shift in the Avengers books” akin to that of Avengers Disassembled. (continue reading…)
