(Leaked?) Green Lantern Corps #59 Cover

by on Apr.19, 2011, under DC, Green Lantern

A very credible source posted this image today. Because intentional or not, DC doesn’t have a preview image of GLC 59′s cover on their website. Granted, covers lie ALL THE TIME(fuck you, Winnick!), but hey! Wouldn’t hurt to speculate.

Red Lantern Guy Gardner: Check.

Blue Lantern Kyle Rayner: Okay. Now he really is Natu’s bitch!

Sinestro Corp Hal Jordan: Been there, done that. Violet pls.

Indigo Tribe John Stewart: Army fatigue and sniper rifle. Compassion. Sounds about right. Also, KLEK NOK.

Of course, the cover of  Green Lantern Corps #60 has Kyle and John back in green so idk, stupid covers! Hell, they don’t even have rings in #58! Oh, and so far, War of the Green Lanterns is off to a bad start. Not as terrible as Brightest Day, but then few event books are. As for the Earth Lanterns’ palette swap, we’re gonna have to wait and find out if DC’s out to troll us(again). Greyest Afternoon, anyone?

‘Superman: Earth One’ Review

by on Nov.02, 2010, under DC, Reviews

Truth be told, I wasn’t really looking forward to reading Superman: Earth One. J. Michael Straczynski was already in the middle of writing for the regular Superman comic, with his insanely ambitious and head-scratching Grounded arc, which aims to make Superman reconnect with ordinary people by taking flying out of the equation and making him walk throughout America. Grounded’s been a mixed bag so far, with a great first issue and with every other issue devolving into a boring and preachy mess, which shows that there’s only so much you can do with Superman not punching stuff.

I admit that my opinion of Grounded has been influenced by comparing it with the infinitely better All-Star Superman, but that’s another story. Also, I’ve had my misgivings about Earth One from the first time I saw the preview art. Brooding Superman in a hoodie? When the hell did Superman become a hobo-hipster, and more importantly, since when did anyone think that brooding Superman was a great idea?

Superman: Earth One was meant to present Superman’s origins in a modernized and reimagined way, not unlike Superman: Man of Steel, Superman: Birthright, and more recently, Superman: Secret Origin. This has been the third attempt to reimagine Superman’s origins for this decade, but unlike the three other origin stories I’ve mentioned before, Earth One does not attempt to reimagine Superman’s origins in mainstream continuity. It’s a huge hardcover original graphic novel, free from decades of continuity of DC’s shared universe. It is sort of an Ultimate Universe version of Superman. (continue reading…)

The Fifty Peso Ninja

OK RJ today is COMIC RELEASE DAY and if you don’t post today, blame Magic the Gathering and his vacation trip to Lala Land – the place where love is true and unfortunately, the ONLY thing.

We’ve all been there folks! And thus I’m free to do soem risky moves today. So instead of doing my usual Green Lantern Geoff Johns-ass kissing, I’ll write about what happened to me this morning. (uh-oh).

Arrived in the office, with tons of work to do I log on to YM and notice that an OLD friend from high school was online – Lico Reloj. I remember conducting a “Comics and Photography” workshop to make an excuse to get high school women of Assumption Antipolo from their stern nunnery and into our influence. Needless to say we really enjoyed the hell out of it.

But like all crooked things I do, I am completely honest about it. Lico IS a comic man – a highly underrated comic writer and artist at that from the Philippines, now living in the U.S. I’m trying to justify why we got high school girls from AA. Besides, I was high school at that time. He has graciously linked me to a webcomic with a character based upon himself – THE FIFTY PESO NINJA.

As you guys will have to read and comment on the comic, I assure you that it is AWESOME. It mixes wit, Japanese manga con hielo tastefully topped off with a Filipino flavor. It has action, comedy and boobies. I swear. The FPN is a hero to us geeks everywhere.

I swear guys not all that glitters is downloaded from Kaskus. Check out this webcomic and once you finish reading it, we’ll have a rally to bug Lico to make more issues.

CHECK OUT THE FIFTY PESO NINJA HERE!!! —> http://www.fiftypesoninja.smackjeeves.com

FYI – Fifty Peso Ninja was nominated for BEST WEBCOMIC. yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!
